Friday, 01 May 2020

The Chatswood community is one step closer to benefitting from modern education facilities with a call made for construction tenders at Chatswood Public School and Chatswood High School. The tender milestone represents the latest step in the project that will transform the existing Chatswood Public and High Schools by delivering new and improved learning facilities.NSW Premier and Member for Willoughby Gladys Berejiklian said she was pleased the project had reached the important milestone of calling for construction tenders.“While the COVID-19 pandemic has meant most of our students have been continuing their learning from home, the NSW Government has been getting on with the job of delivering our record investment in school infrastructure,” Ms Berejiklian said.“This is an exciting project for the Chatswood area. Across the two schools it will provide more than 150 new and refurbished permanent teaching spaces for Kindergarten to Year 12.”Education Minister Sarah Mitchell welcomed the news that the project had progressed to the latest stage.“We want our students to have the very best education, and a key part of that is to provide creative and inspiring school environments to support learning. These upgrades will benefit students for generations to come,” Ms Mitchell said. The State Significant Development application is currently on public exhibition by the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment. Should consent be granted, construction is anticipated to start in 2020 and be completed by late 2023.The NSW Government is investing $6.7 billion over four years to deliver 190 new and upgraded schools to support communities across NSW. In addition, a record $1.3 billion is being spent on school maintenance over five years, along with a record $500 million for the sustainable Cooler Classrooms program to provide air conditioning to schools. This is the largest investment in public education infrastructure in the history of NSW.
